| First things first. A little history lesson for you. The Vespa has evolved from a single model motor scooter introduced in 1946 by Piaggio, to a full line of scooters. Sales in Italy began slowly and by 1950, Piaggio was selling more than 60,000 units per year. Piaggio re-entered the North American market in 2001 with the ET2 and ET4.
There have been 138 different versions of the Vespa; today there are seven models in production for the North American market. Here are the current Vespa models as of 2009: LX 50 Piaggio has been producing this model for over 60 years. Engine – 49cc LX 150 Engine – 150cc S 50 The retro-look. Engine – 49cc S 150 A remake of the very popular 1970’s model. Engine – 150cc GTS 250 Engine – 244cc GTS 300 Super This is a fast gas scooter. The fastest Vespa ever with a top speed of 80mph! Engine – 278cc LVX 150 Has the old school 1960’s look to it. Very cool! Engine – 150cc GTV 250 Again, uses the vintage look from the 1950’s and 60’s. Engine – 244cc So there you have it. What is the top speed of a Vespa? Well, the GTS 300 Super Clocks in at 80mph and the GTV 250 will get you going up to 76mph. Not bad for a little scooter. With an average fuel economy of 70mpg, they are not only fast, but won’t hurt your pocket book at the pump either. | ||||||||
